Historically, the main airport in Puerto Rico has been San Juan's International Airport (airport code SJU) which is a 2 1/2 hour drive from Rincon. The Mayaguez airport (airport code MAZ) is about 20 minutes from Rincon and has commuter flights for connections from San Juan using Cape Air.

The big news for travelers is the newer major airport just twenty minutes from Rincon at Raphael Hernandez Airport in Aguadilla (airport code BQN). At this time, BQN is serviced by Jet Blue, United, and Spirit Air with direct flights from Orlando, Ft. Lauderdale, Newark and New York City.

Condor Airlines will have two direct flights weekly (Wednesdays and Saturdays) from Frankfurt, Germany to San Juan, PR. This is excellent news for those wanting to visit the island as well as locals wanting to visit Germany.

Air Europa launched a direct flight from Madrid, Spain to Puerto Rico in May 2014.Condor Airlines will have two direct flights weekly (Wednesdays and Saturdays) from Frankfurt, Germany to San Juan, PR. This is excellent news for those wanting to visit the island as well as locals wanting to visit Germany.

Directions from San Juan Airport –Hacienda Del Carmen, Rincon, PR
It is highly recommended to use a GPS system as you leave San Juan — the traffic can be heavy, drivers are crazy and having turn-by-turn directions can be invaluable.
As you leave the airport, turn right to the oeste (west); stay to your right and head   toward San Juan. That will put you on Hwy. 26 west; stay in the right hand lane and look for signs to Hwy. 22 and the Manillas tunnel. It will be hard to see so please keep close to your right hand lane. You will look for a sign that will say hazardous waste prohibited in tunnel; just keep looking for that and  Expressway 22; exit to the tunnel(22 west). After going through the tunnel stay to the 2nd to the last lane to your right until you get to your first toll booth. After the first toll both you can get in any lane you like and you will have five or six tolls and it will come to about $4. Make sure you have plenty of change in quarters. (Many car rental companies, like Alamo, have a service, for a fee, that allows you to drive through an “express pay” lane without stopping).
Stay on the Expressway until it drops down and ends past the Arecibo exits. It becomes a four lane highway (road # 2) that passes through several smaller urbanizations with traffic lights. I would not venture too far off the main highway #2, as the smaller towns have small tight congested streets that can be difficult to navigate back to #2. Continue west onto Route 2 beyond Aguadilla to almost Mayaguez. After the towns of Aguadilla and  Aguada exits keep going on Road 2 west past the town of Marias exit or turn, and continue forward on Rd. 2 to PR 402.  There is a MacDonald’s and Walgreens on the corner on the right. Turn right here onto 402. Continue on 402 until the road tees at 115. Go right, several miles into Rincon.

If you are coming from the Hernandez Colon Airport (Boqueron) in Aguadilla it is much simpler and quicker. When leaving this airport head to the west (oeste) toward Mayaguez.  Keep going on Road 2 west past the town of Marias exit or turn, and continue on Rd. 2 to PR 402.  There is a MacDonald’s and Walgreens on the corner on the right. Turn right here onto 402. Continue on 402 until the road tees at 115. Go right, several miles into Rincon.
